The Canada Post headquarters building at the corner of Heron Road and Riverside drive in Ottawa catches some amazing sunset reflections. The objective of this KAP session was to try to capture this from the air. Unfortunately a large cloud obliterated the sun in a relatively clear sky and forced a premature dusk. Lighting was poor and the camera settings forced a low shutterspeed. Many shots were garbage. I’ve tweaked a few of the underexposed images which were still fairly sharp to give an idea of the views. Some are not too bad in the end. I’ll try again one day and I’ll try to move in closer to the Canada Post building. This KAP session was from Vincent Massey Park, but on the south side of Heron Road (towards Hog’s Back). Views include the Canada Post Headquarters, the Sir Charles Tupper Building, Heron Road Bridge and Carleton University. These photos were taken from a camera rig suspended below a kite (Kite Aerial Photography – KAP).

Canada Post Headquarters and the Sir Charles Tupper Building in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The intersection of Heron Road and Riverside Drive is on the left hand side of the image.

Heron Road Bridge over both the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal, with the Experimental Farm in the distance and Vincent Massey Park (both sides of the road) in the foreground.

Carleton University (where the tower is) and Vincent Massey Park in the foreground. This is the main section of the park, on the north side of Heron Road. I’m KAPing from the section of the park on the south side of Heron Road.

This is what a some kite aerial photography images turn out like when the light conditions are poorer than expected. Because I shoot on aperture priority, the camera adjusts to slow shutter speed to compensate for low light. Once the kite and rig are in the air, adjustments to the exposure settings cannot be made (at least with my level of technology).
You can see additional pictures from my KAP 2008-35 outing in the Kite Aerial Photography Gallery on my website.
