El Charco Del Ingenio, San Miguel de Allende

During our February 2015 trip to San Miguel de Allende we visited El Charco Del Ingenio, a renowned botanical gardens important for it’s collection of endemic as well as rescued cacti. There are greenhouses which contain important specimens, outdoor collections in well managed garden beds, and of course a coffee shop, collectibles store and also a display of small cacti for sale in pots. Unfortunately it is illegal to take cacti out of Mexico and the penalties can be severe. So we just had to look. In addition there is a very large nature preserve riddled with hiking trails and wonderful views of canyons, the city of San Miguel de Allende, a hacienda ruins and cactus habitat. The grounds are so extensive and wonderful we spent two days of our 10-day vacation at El Charco Del Ingenio.

San Miguel de Allende

We took a winter vacation early in the year (2015) in San Miguel de Allende. It is a popular travel destination and photographer destination; an enclave of expatriates. In some ways it is not Mexico. In a lot of ways it is Mexico. Be prepared for walking up and down hills with narrow sidewalks and cobblestones.

Included here is a photograph of the most iconic building in San Miguel de Allende. It is La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, known more simple as the Parroquia.

Visit my website gallery San Miguel de Allende to see more images from this trip.

We also visited El Charco Del Ingenio which is the botanical gardens and nature preserve near San Miguel de Allende. Visit my website gallery  El Charco Del Ingenio, San Miguel de Allende for images from this beautiful location.

KAP 2012-4 & KAP 2012-5 – Playa El Palmar, Ixtapa, Mexico

I did two kite aerial photography sessions several days apart at opposite ends of the beach named Playa El Palmar, Ixtapa, Mexico. Playa El Palmar is the nearest beach to Casa Candiles, the Bed and Breakfast where we stayed during our vacation. The B&B is about 10 minutes walk from the public access near the south end of the beach (beside the Barcelo Hotel). There are no small hotels or B&Bs on the beach as you will see from the photographs. The buildings are large hotels and condominium complexes.

These images were obtained using a camera suspended below a kite line (Kite Aerial Photography – KAP). Each of the two sessions was with autoKAP, whereby the camera was triggered every 8 to 10 seconds while making a stepwise slow 360 degree rotation. The wind was not strong enough to lift my fully remote-controlled rig.

During the first session on February 16, 2012, I explored the southern end of the beach with my aerial camera. Photos from that session can be viewed in the KAP 2012-4 Gallery.

The second session was on February 22, 2010 and I explored the northern end of the beach, including Marina Ixtapa which is somewhat inland and connected to the Pacific Ocean by a channel. Photos from the second session can be viewed in the KAP 2012-5 Gallery.

In this posting I have included a mix of photos from the two sessions. All of these images are in an around Playa El Palmar.
