Aerial photograph of wind turbines near Amherst, Nova Scotia. The Trans-Canada highway runs in front of the turbines. The fields are turf in spring, Maritime Sod Ltd.
Anyone who has recently travelled to Nova Scotia on the Trans-Canada Highway has seen the wind farm at Amherst, Nova Scotia which is at the border between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. In fact, the Nova Scotia visitor’s centre is a good place for viewing them. I chose to wander the dirt roads on the opposite side of the highway, which is part of the area used by Maritime Sod Ltd. for growing lawn turf. My shots of the turbines are quite distant but benefit from a foreground of rows of sod fields and the trans-canada highway itself. Also, I believe that one or two of my shots actually have all the wind turbines in the image which is another benefit from shooting from afar. I would like to get closer shots someday, and it would be interesting in the summer when the sod has turned green.
These photographs were taken using a remote-controlled camera suspended below a kite line (Kite Aerial Photography – KAP).
